Lean Interim CEO Dietmar Dold is presenting his 2020 summary and wishes for 2021.
My dear network, friends, clients, colleagues and maybe even potential clients.
It is Christmas 2020 and what a strange year it has been.
I think all of you felt the impact of COVID-19 one way or the other. My brother in law died with just the age of 43 because of a Corona infection.
Businesswise:
Some of you could grow your business, some still struggle and some had to go out of business. That’s
really tough.
I know that my colleagues in the interim management,
consulting and coaching industry had a tough year and kept eating up their savings from
previous years, lying awake at night, worried about the future of their small business and
the impact on their families.
I was fortunate having a client valuing my
services and staying committed until the end of our Interim contract, which is going to
end now.
Albert Einstein once said:
In the midst of every crisis, lies great opportunities.
And I think this is what we should focus on. There is no question that we are in the
midst of a global crisis.
Not only are we seeing loss of life and ill-health,
the worldwide effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 is having devastating effects on
the economies, local communities, families and businesses.
There is no doubt that a crisis creates problems.
Lots of them. But it also creates opportunities and it helps to focus on that.
So, what is the opportunity for you?
Perhaps you are in an industry in high demand, lucky you like employment law, health professionals,
toilet paper manufacturers. Here is an opportunity to rise and serve, to put your skills to use during an unprecedented crisis.
Perhaps the opportunity is to innovate like
never before. Look how quickly we have all transitioned to remote work.
Suddenly the
fear of failure comes second to the risk of doing nothing.
Perhaps the opportunity is to use the time you could never seem to find before to invest in your business model, operating model, systems, processes and especially in the training and coaching of your staff. It is also the right
time to rethink your strategy to focus on your core capabilities. Do you have more than
3 breakthrough objectives for the next 3-5 years? You might fail.
Perhaps Corona gave all of us the opportunity
to spend time with our families like never before. I just recently played with my son on his X-Box. I still cannot figure out why this joystick has more than one button. My Atari 2600 had one button and that was enough to have fun. But that’s the way it goes.
Anyway, I wish you all a peaceful and especially
HEALTHY Christmas time.
Allow me to send my special season greetings this year to my friends and colleagues in New Zealand. You have managed to get Corona Infection rate
down to ZERO just before your big CHRISTMAS SUMMER break. Two words in one sentence you
will never hear in Europe, by the way.
Well done mates. Enjoy the summer, the BBQs
and the beaches. You deserve it!
To all others of you stay at home, stay safe
and enjoy your family.
Merry Christmas everyone.
